What to Do Following a Lyft Accident
Similar to normal car accidents, there are certain things you should do following a Lyft accident. You should know that what you do following a Lyft accident can and will impact what damages can be recovered. Therefore, you will want to move swiftly and be sure to complete the following steps:
- Seek the necessary medical attention.
- Call the police, report the accident to them, and obtain a copy of the police report.
- Document in detail all that you recall about the accident (including names of people involved, witnesses, road conditions, and weather).
- Contact an experienced Albany Lyft accident lawyer.
What Not to Do Following a Lyft Accident
To protect yourself and your rights following a Lyft accident, it would be best to refrain from doing any of the following.
- Admit to or claim fault
- Decline medical attention
- Speak to insurance companies on your own
- Return to work without being cleared by a doctor
Filling a Claim after a Lyft Accident
A lot goes into and impacts a Lyft accident claim. Depending on fault, you may need to file a claim with your driver’s private insurance before filing against the rideshare company. Again, due to the driver being a contractor rather than an employee of Lyft, the driver’s insurance is a barrier between you and Lyft.
Only after the driver’s private insurance rejects a claim can a claim be made against Lyft. This allows Lyft to avoid financial liability in most cases. A Lyft accident lawyer in Albany would be able to assist in navigating the proper steps when filing a claim.
You want to ensure you are not putting your claim at risk, so entrust experienced lawyers to navigate this process for you. John Foy & Associates can negotiate on your behalf and take the case to the courts if necessary.

More About the Lyft Insurance Policy
Lyft requires their contracted drivers to have adequate insurance to drive for their company. This insurance is in addition to the insurance offered and covered by Lyft. The stipulations surrounding the circumstances at the time of the accident determine the coverage.
In addition, different variables determine the amount of liability covered by insurance. Variables such as if the driver’s app is on or whether the driver was on the way to pick up a rider affect the liability coverage. The complexity of this can get rather deep when assessing insurance coverage.
This is where an Albany Lyft accident lawyer would be helpful. They can do the leg work here so you can focus on your recovery.
