What Should You Do After a Lyft Collision in Griffin, GA?
Moments following a car accident can be confusing, especially when it involves a Lyft or other rideshare vehicle. If you are involved in a Lyft collision, take these steps to protect your rights and increase your chances of receiving fair compensation.
- Seek medical attention as soon as possible: After a Lyft collision, it is essential to seek immediate medical attention to ascertain the extent of your injuries. Contacting 9-1-1 is critical if you have suffered severe injuries.
- Report the accident: Georgia law requires car accidents resulting in injuries or $500 or more property damage to be reported to the police. Therefore, ensure you have a written police report to help with any future accident claim.
- Collect critical evidence: Taking pictures of the scene, mainly all vehicles involved in the collision and your injuries, helps provide photographic evidence to support your claim when seeking compensation.
- Gather witness and driver information: Ensure you write down witnesses’ statements, driver’s names, and contact information of anyone who can help with your case. In addition, document the driver’s insurance information, license number, and license plate number.
- Contact a qualified Griffin Lyft accident lawyer: Hiring a Lyft accident lawyer in Griffin is critical when looking to file a claim against a careless driver or rideshare company. A lawyer will guide you through the legal process and help hold an at-fault party accountable.
Determining Liability in a Lyft Accident in Griffin
Like any car accident, determining liability in a Lyft accident is critical since it helps determine the success of your claim. However, it can be challenging to hold a party liable for your injuries when recovering compensation. Several parties are often involved in a rideshare accident: the Lyft driver, the rideshare provider, the Lyft driver’s car insurance company, and the provider’s insurer.
Working with an experienced Griffin Lyft accident attorney helps determine who was at fault. In addition, seeking legal representation lets you protect your rights and gather evidence that proves who was at fault. A Lyft accident attorney in Griffin can help you determine liability after a Lyft accident.
Filing a Lyft Accident Lawsuit After a Rideshare Accident in Griffin
If the insurance company fails to pay, insurance policies are inadequate, or the Lyft provider acted negligently, file a lawsuit against the company. Sometimes, rideshare companies deny liability by treating the driver as an independent contractor. However, the rideshare provider might be responsible if the driver caused the accident while using the service.
In most cases, rideshare passengers and other road users hurt after a Lyft accident caused by a rideshare driver might be limited to the provider’s liability coverage or uninsured motorist’s coverage. However, Georgia law allows those injured in rideshare accidents to seek compensation from the responsible party. Working with an experienced Griffin Lyft accident lawyer ensures you understand your legal options and file your claim against the party liable for your damages.

Damages Recovered in a Lyft Accident
Damages you might recover after a ridesharing accident caused by a rideshare driver are often similar to benefits you may receive from a car accident. Georgia law recognizes damages that can be paid in settlements or verdicts if the case goes to trial. Some damages you might recover in your Lyft accident claim include:
- Past, current, and future medical bills
- Pain and suffering
- Lost wages
- Interference with daily living
- Mental anguish
- Wrongful death
You can also pursue punitive damages if an at-fault party behaved egregiously, such as driving under the influence or operating with defective equipment. Under O.C.G.A §51-12-5.1, punitive damages are reserved for defendants whose behavior or actions prove willful fraud, wantonness, malice, or misconduct that led to indifferent consequences. The intent for seeking punitive damages is to punish, deter or penalize the defendant for negligent actions that led to your injuries.
