An Overview of Workers’ Compensation in Milledgeville
A version of workers’ compensation has existed in the United States for more than 100 years, but the concept of compensating employees has been around since ancient times. In Georgia, workers’ compensation was adopted in 1920 and its laws are found under Chapter 9 of the Georgia Code.
Georgia workers’ compensation is meant to accomplish two things:
- Provide medical treatment and financial compensation to workers who are injured on the job and
- Protect employers from lengthy and expensive lawsuits
Under workers’ compensation, it is legally impossible for an employee to sue their employer for a work injury. Unlike other personal injury claims in Milledgeville, workers’ comp is a no-fault system. If your injury happens at work, it should be covered—and who was at fault does not matter.

- Running an errand for your employer
- Traveling for business
- Attending an off-site work meeting
- Driving a company vehicle
