Can You File a Lawsuit Against an Organization for Abuse?
Yes, it is possible to file a lawsuit against an organization if its negligence allowed sexual abuse to occur. Many cases involve individuals in positions of authority, such as clergy, teachers, or coaches, who used their power to harm others.
Organizations can be held accountable when they fail in their responsibilities, such as properly screening employees, providing adequate training, or responding appropriately to reports of misconduct.
However, suing an organization can come with unique challenges that require legal guidance:
- Difficulty Proving Negligence: Establishing that an organization’s actions, or lack thereof, directly contributed to the abuse can be complex. A skilled Albany sexual abuse attorney can investigate policies, procedures, employee records, and past complaints to build a strong case.
- Large Legal Teams and Resources: Organizations often have extensive legal teams to defend against claims. Our legal team can level the playing field by using our own resources and experience to counter these defenses.
- Intimidation Tactics: Organizations may attempt to discredit victims or discourage them from coming forward. A compassionate attorney serves as your advocate, protecting your rights and ensuring you are treated fairly throughout the legal process.
- Proving Institutional Negligence: It’s not enough to show that abuse occurred—you must prove the organization’s negligence enabled it. We gather evidence, such as failure in background checks, ignored complaints, or lack of supervision, to demonstrate accountability.
With the right legal team by your side, you can overcome these obstacles and hold negligent organizations responsible for their role in allowing abuse to happen.
Common Types of Sexual Abuse Cases We Handle
Sexual abuse can happen in many settings, often involving people or institutions entrusted with care and responsibility. Our team of sexual abuse lawyers in Albany handles a wide range of cases, including:

- Abuse in Schools or Educational Settings: Sexual misconduct by teachers, coaches, or other school staff, as well as institutional negligence.
- Abuse in Youth Sports or Camps: Exploitation by coaches, trainers, or camp counselors, often resulting from poor screening or supervision.
- Abuse in Healthcare Settings: Sexual misconduct by doctors, therapists, or other medical professionals entrusted with patient care.
No matter where the abuse occurred, our attorneys are here to listen, investigate, and hold the responsible parties accountable.
