What Should You Do If You’ve Had an Accident in Jonesboro?
It can be hard to know what to do after an accident. You may be experiencing pain and discomfort, and an extended absence from work can put financial stress on your entire family. This is when many accident victims look to the insurance company to help. Unfortunately, the insurers seldom have your best interests at heart. They want to pay you the smallest amount possible—or nothing at all.
Instead, you need to be your own advocate and take steps to protect your rights. The law gives you the right to recover all of your costs from your injury.
Two of the Most Important Steps to Take After Your Injury
Here are two important steps you can take after your accident:
- Call a reputable Jonesboro personal injury attorney. Insurance companies have legions of lawyers representing them. Don’t assume that you can negotiate with them alone. A good lawyer is your best ally in representing your interests and getting the money you need.
- Don’t sign anything from the insurance company until you’ve spoken to an attorney. Insurance companies will often make you a quick offer if you will sign away your rights in the case. This is often a bad deal—it means they think your claim may be worth much more, and they’re offering you only a fraction of it. Once you’ve accepted their offer, you’ve surrendered your legal rights and voided your case. Speak to an attorney as soon after your accident as possible.
How do You Know If You Have a Case?
The best way to find out is to speak to a legal professional—someone who handles cases like these on a daily basis. At John Foy & Associates, we are trained to strategically fight the big insurance companies on your behalf, and get you the maximum dollar amount allowed by law.
We have a team of legal assistants, attorneys, and investigators that can uncover the facts, document everything, and interview witnesses in order to present a strong case. Our Jonesboro, GA personal injury lawyers will focus on building your case, while you focus on restoring your health and quality of life.
Some of the Most Common Personal Injury Accidents We Handle
Here are some of the most common types of injury accidents that qualify as personal injury claims:
- Automobile accidents
- Product recalls or defective products
- Nursing home abuse
- Harmful prescribed drugs or prescriptions
- Product liability
- Criminal assault resulting in injury
Will Your Case Go to Court?
Most personal injury cases are settled long before you have to stand before a judge. This is our preferred solution and we will negotiate hard for an out-of-court settlement in your case. There are times, however, when the insurance company may reject negotiations, and it becomes necessary to go to trial.
If you choose, we can take the matter to the local courts. If this happens our Jonesboro personal injury attorneys will represent you at every step, and make the process as easy and stress-free as possible.

How Much does It Cost to Hire an Attorney in Jonesboro?
At John Foy & Associates, there is no charge to speak to a personal injury attorney. We do not charge out-of-pocket fees—not for your first consultation and not for any consultation. We have seen some law firms that will charge you fees whether they win or lose, and we don’t think this practice is in your best interests.
What Are John Foy’s Payment Terms?
- All consultations are FREE, with no limitations
- You pay nothing upfront or out of pocket—ever
- We don’t get paid unless we win you money
We believe our Jonesboro, GA lawyers should get paid only if we win your case, and our fees are paid as a percentage of the financial recovery that we win for you. We believe this is the fairest, lowest-risk way arrangement for our clients.
Is There a Deadline to File Your Claim in Jonesboro?
Yes. In the City of Jonesboro, the court deadlines are set by laws known as statutes of limitations, which is a time limit to file a personal injury claim. These guidelines are mandated by Georgia state law and federal law. The deadlines vary greatly, depending on the details of your accident injury, but they typically give a set period of time in which you can file your claim, starting on the date of your injury.
In some cases this deadline can be up to two years; in others, it is very short, sometimes a matter of weeks. If you miss the deadline you may lose your right to a financial recovery altogether. That’s why it is so important for you to speak with an attorney as soon after your accident injury as possible.
