Why Hiring an Uber Accident Lawyer Is Important
One thing you should recognize is that, while the Official Code of Georgia Annotated (OCGA) § 51-1-6 gives you the right to file a claim and recover compensation, it doesn’t mean that you’re assured a fair settlement. That is something that you’re going to have to negotiate and fight for against Uber and their insurance company.
Don’t automatically assume that they’re going to be compassionate and give you the settlement you deserve. On almost every single claim, they will always fight to give you the bare minimum in compensation. In addition, they may also try to claim that you’re overexaggerating and that your damages aren’t as severe as you claim them to be.
To make matters worse, Uber and their insurance company have strong legal support and lots of resources backing them. In other words, if you try to file a claim on your own with no legal experience or support, you’ll find yourself in a very steep uphill battle. To level the playing field, it’s critical you hire a lawyer and get the boost you need.

Types of Damages You Can Recover After an Uber Accident in Union City
There are three types of damages that you can recover compensation for after suffering an Uber accident in Union City. We break them down for you below so that they’re straightforward to understand.
Economic Damages
Economic damages are the damages you sustained that have fixed monetary values. In other words, these damages are relatively easy to calculate how much they’re worth and don’t often change depending on the circumstances of your case. Economic damages include:
- Lost wages
- Reduced earning capability
- Medical expenses such as prescriptions, medical equipment, hospital visits, ER visits, specialist visits, psychological treatment, etc.
- Various property damages or loss
Be sure to retain any receipts, bills, invoices, or other records of monetary loss after an Uber accident. This makes it much easier for our lawyers to factor them into your final settlement total.
Non-Economic Damages
These damages are the opposite of economic damages since they don’t have fixed monetary values. What this means is that the non-economic damages you sustain depend highly on how much they’ve impacted you and the unique circumstances surrounding your Uber accident. Non-economic damages usually consist of:
- Pain and suffering
- Mental anguish and emotional trauma
- Loss of enjoyment of life or loss of consortium
- Disability and disfigurement
- Wrongful death
There’s no price that anyone can put on human life and happiness. While money can’t replace everything you lost, it can help you move forward without having to face a financial burden. Our lawyers will ensure that all your non-economic damages get accounted for.
Punitive Damages
Punitive damages aren’t compensatory like economic and non-economic damages are. Instead, they’re awared by the court if your Uber accident happened due to specific circumstances, such as:
- Egregious negligence, such as driving under the influence
- The at-fault party was committing a crime when the accident occurred
- The at-fault party intentionally tried to harm you or harm others
Not all Uber accident cases will qualify for punitive damages. However, if yours does, our lawyers will fight to get you an award for them.
Statute of Limitations for Uber Accidents in Union City
Under OCGA § 9-3-33, Uber accident victims in Union City only have two years to file their claims. Waiting to file a claim is only going to hurt your chances of winning a fair settlement. Right after seeking medical treatment, you need to get in touch with one of our lawyers and start filing your claim as soon as possible. Don’t wait until the last minute to get started.
