A Savannah Catastrophic Injury Lawsuit Must Be Filed Within a Designated Time Frame
Catastrophic injuries impact people long into the future. They can occur for many reasons, such as:
Auto Accident
A negligent driver endangers other motorists. The driver can cause a car accident that results in one or more catastrophic injuries. This driver can be held financially responsible for any damages that occur during the accident.
Motorcycle Accident
If a negligent driver strikes a motorcycle rider, the motorist can be held accountable for any catastrophic injuries that occur. In this scenario, the driver may be fully or partially responsible for the motorcycle accident. The rider who suffered a catastrophic injury can pursue economic and non-economic damages relating to their catastrophic injury.
Truck Accident
A truck driver can spend long hours behind the wheel, to the point where this individual feels exhausted. The driver can lose focus on the road and cause an accident that results in a catastrophic injury. This driver and their employer may be responsible for any damages that a victim incurs in the truck accident.
Slip and Fall Accident
A business or property owner must provide a reasonable amount of care for their property. Yet, hazards can crop up on a property that go unaddressed. If a person slips and falls due to a property hazard and suffers a catastrophic injury, this individual can seek damages as part of a personal injury claim.
When searching for catastrophic injury attorneys, review the options carefully. This allows an individual to select a catastrophic injury lawyer in Savannah, GA, who knows the ins and outs of personal injury law. This attorney can get their client up to speed on state laws regarding personal injury cases.
How a Catastrophic Injury Lawsuit Gets Filed in Savannah
Before a person files a catastrophic injury lawsuit in Savannah, it is important to consult with a personal injury lawyer. Ideally, it pays to choose a catastrophic injury attorney in Savannah, GA who possesses comprehensive legal expertise. This lawyer can define legal terms and phrases and help an individual seek the most damages possible in a catastrophic injury case.
A Savannah catastrophic injury attorney can teach a person about economic and non-economic damages. These are awarded to plaintiffs based on objective and subjective losses, such as loss of wages, pain, and suffering relating to a catastrophic injury. Along with economic and non-economic damages, a court may award punitive damages to deter an at-fault party from future negligent acts.
Once a catastrophic injury lawyer and their client decide how much to seek in damages, they file the paperwork required to sue. Filing the paperwork does not guarantee a fast case resolution. Rather, it initiates the legal process.
When to Expect a Catastrophic Injury Lawsuit in Savannah to Get Resolved
It can take months or years before a catastrophic injury lawsuit goes to court. During this period, a plaintiff and defendant can negotiate the terms of a settlement. Doing so can be mutually beneficial for all involved.
For a plaintiff, a settlement allows this individual to receive a portion of the damages that were originally requested. The settlement ensures this individual does not need to appear in court to request damages. It also guarantees that a plaintiff receives some compensation for their catastrophic injury.
Meanwhile, a defendant can offer a settlement in the hopes of a quick resolution to a catastrophic injury lawsuit. The defendant may push the plaintiff to accept a settlement right away. However, it is not always in a plaintiff’s best interest to accept a settlement proposal.

How to Decide on a Catastrophic Injury Lawsuit Settlement in Savannah
It can be tempting to accept a Savannah catastrophic injury lawsuit settlement. Prior to doing so, a plaintiff should consult with a Savannah catastrophic injury attorney. This allows the plaintiff to gain legal insights into a settlement proposal and weigh the offer’s pros and cons.
A catastrophic injury lawyer in Savannah understands the impact of accepting a settlement. The attorney shares their legal insights into a settlement offer, which helps a plaintiff understand the ramifications of any decision this individual makes. The plaintiff makes the final decision on whether to accept, reject, or counter a settlement offer.
If a plaintiff decides a settlement offer is insufficient, this individual should have no trouble declining the proposal. The plaintiff’s lawyer can notify the defendant about their client’s decision. From here, the lawyer and plaintiff continue to explore ways to make their argument as strong as possible.
