What to Do If You’ve Been Injured in a Taxicab Accident

If you have been hurt in a taxicab accident, it’s important to preserve information about the crash as much as you can. This will help you and your lawyer begin building your case. Here are some ways you can do that.

Call the Police

After being involved in an accident in Georgia with injuries, it’s your duty to call the police and report the accident. This will create a formal report of the crash that acts as the first official record of it occurring.

Gather Information at the Scene

If you are not hurt too badly to do so, you can begin compiling evidence at the scene like:

• Names and contact information for any eyewitnesses to the accident
• Pictures of your injuries, vehicle damage, and the entire scene
• Names, contact information, and insurance information for all other drivers involved in the crash and
• Anything else that you think might help show what happened during the accident

Get Medical Attention

If you or someone else in the crash needs emergency medical attention, call for an ambulance right away. Otherwise, make sure you see a doctor as soon as possible after leaving the scene. Even if you feel okay, you could have underlying injuries that are more serious than you realize.

Getting medical treatment is also crucial for your case. If you wait too long, the at-fault driver’s insurance company will probably try to use it against you to reduce your compensation.

Talk to a Roswell Taxicab Accident Lawyer

After you gather information at the scene, one of the most important next steps you can take is to contact a lawyer who specializes in supporting taxicab accident victims. They can help ensure you are taking the best next steps and begin building your case based on what you’ve collected so far.

Your lawyer can also help you keep track of all medical bills, receipts, and other evidence of your damages. This is vital for your claim.

Common Causes of Taxicab Accidents in Roswell

Taxicab drivers in Georgia must obtain special driver’s license endorsements and complete other training and requirements before they can operate a taxicab. This should make a taxi safer than the average car, but negligent taxi drivers can cause accidents in the same ways as other negligent drivers.

Causes of taxicab accidents in Roswell can include:

• Violating traffic laws, such as running red lights or not yield the right-of-way
• Aggressive driving or road rage
• Drunk driving and
• Driving while distracted

Sometimes, a taxicab accident is caused by another driver on the road. As the victim of this type of accident, you’ll need to determine how the crash happened so you know who was ultimately responsible.

If the taxicab driver was negligent in the accident, you will need to compile evidence to show that they (and their insurance company) are liable for your damages. This is difficult to do alone, which is why we recommend speaking with a taxicab accident lawyer as soon as possible.

Your Legal Options After Being Hurt in a Taxicab Accident

Your legal options after being injured in an accident depend on the at-fault party. Who caused the accident, and how did they cause it? Getting clear on these answers often takes some investigation into the details of the accident.

If you were not at fault for the accident, you should not have to pay for the costs you now face. However, to seek compensation, you will need to file a claim with the at-fault party’s insurance company:

• If the taxicab driver was at fault, you’d probably file a claim with the taxicab company’s insurance company.
• Sometimes, the taxicab driver is an independent contractor and responsible for their own actions, which means you would turn to their own insurance company.
• If another driver (besides the taxicab driver) was at fault, you’d file a claim with that driver’s auto insurance company.

An experienced Roswell taxicab accident lawyer can help you sort out who was liable. If it turns out more than one party was partially at fault, your lawyer can help you handle that, as well.

Remember: the Insurance Company Is Not On Your Side

After the accident, the at-fault party’s insurance company might try reaching out to you. Even if they seem nice and concerned about your situation, keep in mind that they are not on your side. An insurance adjuster’s job is, ultimately, to save the company money, and they will look for ways to reduce your compensation.

It’s usually best to not speak with the other insurance company at all before you have a lawyer on your side. Otherwise, you run the risk of something being used against you. Once you have a taxicab accident lawyer, you can let them handle all communication with the insurance company—so you can focus on recovering from the accident.
