How Whiplash Injuries Happen in Marietta
Whiplash injuries often occur during rear-end accidents. However, someone can suffer whiplash in any type of auto accident, even at low speeds. Physical trauma and contact sports also often cause whiplash.
When a car accident happens, the force can whip your head back and forth. The sudden movement (like a whip) strains the muscles and tendons in your neck. Your neck must move past its normal range of motion.
You might not feel whiplash fully until hours or days later. As the inflammation sets in, the pain can make even daily tasks impossible. You might need expensive medical treatment and have to miss precious work time to recover.
Marietta Whiplash Accident Symptoms
The symptoms of whiplash can take time to show up. They can also worsen with time, so see a doctor if anything changes or gets more painful. Even if you feel fine, you should always see a medical doctor right after your accident.
Common symptoms of whiplash can include:
- Headaches
- Neck pain, stiffness, or tenderness
- Limited range of motion in the neck
- Pain when you move your neck
- Tingling or numbness running along your arms
- Swelling in the neck
- Ringing in the ears
Whiplash can also affect your mood. You might experience anxiety, depression, or irritability. Whiplash injuries can make it difficult to focus on takes in front of you or remember essential details.
Document your whiplash symptoms as much as possible. Write down how the injuries have affected your life since the crash. Also, save all medical records of your treatment.
Anything you can record about your whiplash injury will help your case. When you file a compensation claim, you’ll need strong evidence.
What to Expect from Whiplash Treatment in Marietta
After a whiplash accident, seek medical attention right away. Even if you don’t feel pain yet, see a doctor who can evaluate you. Tell the doctor that you’ve been in a car accident.
Whiplash injuries also happen with other crash injuries. If you need emergency treatment, don’t hesitate to get it. Otherwise, see a doctor as soon as you can after the accident.
Thankfully, most people recover from whiplash within a few weeks. Your doctor will work to control your pain and restore movement to your neck. According to the Mayo Clinic, treatments can include:
- Over-the-counter pain medications
- Prescription medications
- Physical therapy
- Hot or cold pads
- Lidocaine injections
- Muscle relaxants
Your doctor will probably give you at-home treatment instructions. They’ll also likely advise you to rest as much as possible. Be sure to follow all orders from your doctor.
Some whiplash injuries take more than a few weeks to heal. In most cases, whiplash injuries can remain long-term. If so, it’s crucial to talk to a Marietta whiplash accident lawyer and tell your doctor.
If whiplash impacts your life long-term, you’ll need to account for it in your claim. You should not pay the costs for an injury you didn’t cause.

Proving the Other Driver Is at Fault for Your Whiplash Accident
If another driver caused your whiplash accident, you have rights. You can seek compensation from the driver’s insurance company. You’ll need to file a personal injury claim that proves four points:
- The driver owed you a duty of care
- The driver violated their duty of care
- The driver’s negligence led to your accident
- You suffered injuries and damages because of the accident
All drivers in Marietta have a legal duty to each other. Everyone must act in a way that doesn’t cause harm. If the driver’s actions led to your accident, they have been negligent. Your claim will need to prove the driver’s negligence through the above points.
An experienced Marietta whiplash accident lawyer can help. Your lawyer can build a strong injury claim showing the driver’s fault. Your lawyer will also gather proof of your damages to know what settlement amount you deserve.

Marietta Whiplash Accident Damages
As the injured party, you can seek compensation for your damages (Georgia Code Section 51-12-4). Your damages may include:
- Medical bills
- Prescription medications
- Lost wages
- Property damage
- Pain and suffering
Save as much evidence of your damages as possible. You can prove many of your damages through bills and receipts. However, pain and suffering damages are more challenging to demonstrate. You’ll need help from an experienced whiplash lawyer to calculate non-economic damages.
Your lawyer can calculate the total worth of your damages. If you had no fault in your accident, you might be eligible for 100% compensation. Your claim should “make you whole” by covering all of your losses from the accident.
