Common Hazards in Ross Dress for Less Stores

Often, slip and fall accidents happen in stores like Ross when common hazards are not prevented or attended to quickly enough. If employees are not diligent about making sure the premises are safe at all times, unsuspecting customers may slip, trip, or fall over hazards that can cause serious injuries.

Some of the most common preventable dangerous conditions that lead to slip and fall accidents include:

• Slippery floors from being recently cleaned, from water leaks, or from product spills
• Merchandise that has fallen onto the floor
• Torn or loosened carpet or rugs
• Uneven stairs or flooring
• Inadequate lighting that makes it difficult to see

To have a successful slip and fall accident claim in Georgia, you must be able to show that the hazardous condition directly caused your fall. You’ll also need to demonstrate that the accident wouldn’t have happened if the store’s employees or manager had fixed or cleaned up the hazard in time. Proving these facts can be tricky, which is why many injury victims work with a Ross Dress for Less slip and fall accident lawyer.

How Stores Employees Can Be Negligent in Slip and Fall Accidents

All stores in Georgia, including Ross Dress for Less, have a legal duty to ensure their location is safe for everyone who is visiting. Per Georgia Code § 51-3-1, an owner or occupier of land who invites others onto their property is liable in damages for injuries caused by their “failure to exercise ordinary care” in making the premises safe.

Employees must upload this duty of “ordinary care” by keeping aisles clean and clear of debris, spills, and other hazards that could cause someone to slip and fall. Stores must also monitor for hazards and clean them up within a reasonable amount of time. When they neglect these duties, customers can get hurt.

It doesn’t matter if the injuries are minor or serious. If they result in damages, customers have a legal right to file a claim for compensation when the store is at fault.

Any type of injury applies to the laws on owner/occupier liability, but slip and fall accidents are the most common in retail environments. Ross Dress for Less carries a lot of clothing and merchandise that can make maneuvering around difficult and increase the chance of customers tripping or falling.

Since Ross is a retail store, items can easily get thrown and scattered on the floors at any time. Power cords can get moved into aisles without proper warning or without being taped down. Customers may hit their heads on clothing racks or the corners of aisles. Shoppers might also bring food or drinks with them as they shop, which can present further slip and fall hazards.

Slip and fall accidents in stores like Ross can lead to injuries like:

• Cuts, scrapes, and bruises from jagged countertops or clothing pins or labels
• Broken bones
• Head injuries or concussions from bumping into displays, getting hit by falling objects, or falling on the floor
• Muscles sprains or strains
