Understanding Postmates Accidents in Augusta
With the increased number of delivery drivers on our roads, the risk of accidents has also risen. Many of these delivery drivers aren’t formally trained beyond what’s necessary to drive, and their insurance policies may not cover commercial services.
These cases can involve multiple parties that share liability, including Postmates, the driver, other motorists, bystanders, and more. A seasoned Augusta car accident lawyer can cut through the red tape and help you get the compensation you deserve after your accident.
Reasons for Negligent Postmates Drivers
While many Postmates drivers are responsible and safety-conscious, the nature of the job can sometimes lead to negligent behavior. Here are some reasons a driver for Postmates may become negligent
Time Pressure and Rushed Deliveries
Postmates drivers often work under significant time pressure. The app tracks their delivery times, and slow service can affect customer ratings, affecting their pay or ability to work for Postmates. This pressure can lead to:
- Speeding: Drivers may exceed speed limits to meet delivery deadlines.
- Distracted Driving: Checking the app for directions or new orders while driving.
- Unsafe Lane Changes: Making abrupt lane changes or turns without proper signaling.
Fatigue and Long Hours
Many Postmates drivers work long hours or late nights to maximize their earnings. This can result in:
- Driver Fatigue: Reduced reaction times and impaired judgment.
- Drowsy Driving: A danger comparable to drunk driving in some cases.
Inexperienced Drivers
Postmates’ hiring process doesn’t require extensive driving experience. This can lead to:
- Poor Decision Making: Inexperienced drivers may not anticipate traffic patterns or potential hazards.
- Unfamiliarity with Local Roads: Drivers may make sudden stops or turns when navigating unfamiliar areas.
Vehicle Maintenance Issues
Postmates drivers use personal vehicles, which may not always be properly maintained. This can result in:
- Mechanical Failures: Brake problems, tire blowouts, or other critical issues.
- Visibility Issues: Poorly maintained headlights or windshield wipers can impair a driver’s vision.
At John Foy & Associates, we’re well-versed in identifying these and other forms of potential negligence in Postmates accident cases. If you’ve been involved in an accident with a Postmates driver, it’s time to get our Augusta personal injury lawyers on your side.
Steps to Take After a Postmates Accident in Augusta
If you’ve been involved in a Postmates accident, here’s what you should do to protect yourself and your chances of receiving financial compensation:
Ensure Safety and Seek Medical Attention
Your health and safety should be your top priority. Call 911 if anyone is injured and seek immediate medical attention, even if you feel fine. Some injuries may not be immediately apparent. Follow all instructions given to you by your doctor.
Document the Scene
If it’s safe, take photos of the accident, including vehicle damage, road conditions, and any visible injuries. Collect contact information from witnesses and other involved parties. This will help you later when you speak with a lawyer.
Report the Accident
File a police report and inform Postmates about the accident. Be factual in your statements, but avoid admitting fault or making speculative comments. If you were taken to the hospital after the crash, the police may contact you, or you can contact them to make a statement. The police report proves the accident happened.
