Will workers’ compensation pay for modifications to my home? Workers’ comp could pay for modifications to your home if you suffer a catastrophic injury that impacts your mobility or cognition.
An Atlanta workers’ compensation lawyer can evaluate your case and determine if you are eligible for these and similar benefits.
Will Workers’ Compensation Pay for Modifications to My Home in Georgia?
There are instances where workers’ comp will pay for modifications to your home. For example, you suffer a catastrophic injury at work due to no fault of your own. A workers’ compensation lawyer could help you submit your claim, which may allow you to receive benefits for property modifications.
To get home modifications through workers’ compensation, you must prove that you are dealing with a permanent and total disability. You may obtain this prior to submitting your workers’ comp claim. If you had a claim that had been previously closed, you may have the option to reopen it.

How Do I Qualify for Workers’ Comp to Pay for Home Modifications?
To determine if workers’ compensation will pay for any modifications to your home, seek legal help. A workers’ comp lawyer can examine your case. They can help you submit a claim in accordance with state law.
Your attorney can help you file a workers’ compensation claim within one year of the date of your accident. Along with this, they will gather evidence on your behalf. Your proof can help make it clear that you were badly injured to the point where you need home modifications.
Just because you submit a workers’ comp claim and relevant evidence does not guarantee that your benefits request will be approved. Your lawyer advocates for you throughout the claims process. They can share details about whether workers’ compensation pays your full salary in Georgia and what to do if your claim is denied.
What Happens if Workers’ Compensation Refuses to Cover My Home Modifications?
If you ask workers’ compensation to pay for modifications to your house and your request is rejected, you can appeal the original decision against you. Your lawyer can share workers’ compensation FAQs. They can guide you through the appeals process, which consists of four stages:
- File your appeal. You have 20 days from the date your workers’ comp benefits request was rejected to dispute this decision.
- Submit your brief. Your lawyer can share a written statement with the appeals court that explains why you believe you should be awarded benefits, and the opposing party can do the same as they explain why the initial decision should be upheld.
- Receive the appeals court’s decision. You will find out if the appeals court has overturned your decision or if you will still continue to be denied benefits.
If an appeals court rejects your request for a reversal of your workers’ comp benefits decision, you maintain options. Your lawyer can continue to appeal to higher courts. No matter what happens, they will commit time, energy, and resources to help you get the benefits you want.

Tips to Help You Prove That Workers’ Compensation Should Pay for Modifications to Your Home
Before you file a workers’ compensation claim in which you ask workers’ comp to pay for modifications to your home, partner with a lawyer who will prioritize your case.
As you consider how to find a good workers’ compensation lawyer in Atlanta, account for an attorney’s track record. Your lawyer may provide you with tips to help you with your claim, including:
Document Your Workplace Accident and Injuries
Notify your employer about your on-the-job accident and injuries immediately. Keep track of the medical care you receive for your injuries, communications with your employer, and all other documentation relating to your case. This can strengthen your case.
Continue to Receive Medical Care
Show your employer and your insurer that you are doing everything within your power to treat your injuries. Go to the doctor and attend follow-up appointments as recommended. Track your medical bills and any documentation from your doctor that indicates home modifications are warranted, as these could help you prove that you should receive benefits.
Provide Accurate Information About Your Injuries
Resist the urge to stretch the truth about your injuries. The information you include in your claim should explain how you got hurt, the severity of your injuries, and why modifications to your home are necessary. If the information you provide is inaccurate, this could lead to a claim denial.
Do Not Try to Go Back to Work
Avoid “toughing it out” and returning to work if you are seriously injured. Your health and well-being are your top priorities, and you should do what is required to take care of yourself. If you return to work too soon, you could make your injuries worse and compromise your workers’ comp claim.
Keep in Contact with Your Lawyer
Tell your lawyer if your employer or their insurer contacts you and tries to get you to discuss your workers’ compensation claim. Your attorney can speak about your claim on your behalf. Together, you and your lawyer can maintain open and honest communication throughout the claims process.
Unfortunately, the workers’ comp claims process can be lengthy. You do not have to go through this process alone. Your lawyer can serve as your legal representation and help you make informed decisions as you attempt to get workers’ comp to cover modifications to your home and other injury-related expenses.
