Notice: Thank you for visiting our informational page regarding Zantac claims. At this time we are no longer accepting cases regarding Zantac cases. However, if you feel that you have any questions about other defective medical devices, dangerous drugs, recalls, or any additional legal concerns that we may help you with, please call us or fill out the evaluation form.
While Zantac lawsuits are still pending, we can’t know the exact settlement values. Lawyers are calculating damages to see how much the drug manufacturers owe to victims. The settlement value will also vary based on each victim, lawsuit, and manufacturer.
Settlements can include damages like medical bills, lost wages, and pain and suffering. To know your settlement options, talk to an experienced Zantac lawyer today. John Foy & Associates is here to help.

When We Expect Zantac Lawsuits to Settle
The concerns about Zantac did not start until 2019. In April 2020, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) officially asked manufacturers to take Zantac off the market.
Although we would like for victims to have their money now, settlements take time. Since lawsuits have just started, some settlements could take a couple of years. However, the worth of a Zantac class-action lawsuit could be billions of dollars.
Personal injury lawyers are working hard to get victims their compensation as soon as possible. Thankfully, most lawyers (like John Foy & Associates) do not charge until the case is over. You do not pay us unless we win for you.
Knowing the Value of Your Zantac Settlement
Zantac’s manufacturers will probably have to settle with many plaintiffs. (A plaintiff is someone who brings a case against another person or company. If you are seeking a Zantac settlement, we refer to you as a plaintiff or victim.)
Each plaintiff’s settlement will depend on their injuries and case. Since the Zantac lawsuit is about a link to cancer, lawyers will look at each victim’s cancer case.
Those with worse injuries could have much higher settlements. For example, a stage four terminal cancer victim might receive higher compensation than a stage one cancer victim. If someone had more treatment or surgeries, they might be entitled to more money.
Damages that Determine a Zantac Settlement Amount
Your lawyer will look at all of the ways Zantac has affected you. If you developed cancer after taking Zantac, you likely have a case.
Your settlement will depend on your “damages.” Damages are losses that you face because of your injury. In this case, your injury would be your cancer diagnosis.
Georgia law divides losses into special and general damages (Georgia Code § 51-12-2).
Special Zantac Damages
Your special damages might include:
- Medical bills
- Cancer treatment costs
- Surgeries
- Prescription medications
- Lost wages
You can prove special damages through documentation. Medical bills, receipts, and pay stubs can show your monetary losses. However, general damages are more difficult to prove.
General Zantac Damages
General damages can include:
- Physical and mental pain and suffering
- Mental anguish
- Loss of enjoyment of life
- Anxiety or depression
A cancer diagnosis affects your life in many ways. That includes emotional injuries like those listed above. Your lawyer will work to put a dollar amount on these losses.
If you or someone you love has cancer after using Zantac, you might have a case. We wish we could give you a clear settlement value, but that’s impossible at this time. Settlements will depend on each claim and its damages.

Accepting or Rejecting Your Zantac Settlement
Each plaintiff can accept or reject a settlement offer. If you don’t think your settlement offer is fair, you can take your case to trial. However, going to trial does not guarantee a win.
Your Zantac lawyer will only recommend going to trial if they think you have a strong case. While a trial is riskier than accepting a settlement, a trial award can be much higher. Your lawyer will likely encourage you to take a settlement if it’s fair to you.
Why the Zantac Lawsuit Started
Zantac lawsuits began when the FDA announced a likely cancer-causing substance in Zantac. Testing showed levels of N-nitroso dimethylamine (NDMA) in Zantac and ranitidine (the generic form of Zantac).
NDMA is a chemical and probable human carcinogen, according to the World Health Organization (WHO). Scientists have used NDMA in the lab to cause cancer in rats. At high levels, NDMA can be especially dangerous for humans.
The FDA announced that:
- Low levels of NDMA were in some Zantac/ranitidine products.
- NDMA levels can increase in Zantac/ranitidine products over time and at high temperatures.
- Conditions could cause “unacceptable levels” of NDMA in the drug.
Many people have been taking Zantac (or its generic form with ranitidine) for years. It’s a popular heartburn medication that decreases how much acid your stomach makes. Zantac also helps treat acid reflux and gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD).
Zantac’s manufacturers failed to warn patients about the NDMA cancer risks. Now, many are filing lawsuits for the compensation they deserve.
How to Know if You Can Join the Zantac Lawsuit
You qualify for a Zantac lawsuit if you meet both of the following conditions:
- You used Zantac or ranitidine drugs regularly.
- You have received a cancer diagnosis after taking the medication.
You may qualify for a settlement with any type of cancer. However, diseases most closely linked to NDMA include:
- Stomach Cancer
- Colorectal Cancer
- Breast Cancer
- Esophageal Cancer
- Bladder Cancer
- Liver cancer
- Intestinal Cancer
You are more likely to get a higher settlement if you have one of these cancers. Your chances are also better if you took the prescription form of Zantac.
