Car Accidents in Cobb County
Smyrna is a quick 15-minute drive from the city of Atlanta, with the quiet benefits of the suburbs. Its strategic access to three interstates makes Lyft travel especially convenient. Of course, more cars bring more chances for car accidents.
For the last full year of data collection available, the Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) reported 27,273 car accidents in Cobb County, with 77 fatalities and 400 suspected serious injuries.
If you are seriously injured or your loved one is killed in an accident, a lawyer from John Foy & Associates will help you get the financial compensation you deserve.
Steps to Take After a Lyft Accident in Smyrna
Initially, in the aftermath of a Lyft accident, do the same things you would do after any car accident. Ensure you and other passengers are safe if you are able. Call the police to ensure an official accident report exists.
If possible, collect evidence from the scene, including photos and video of your injuries and property damage, and roadway conditions. Get contact information from witnesses and exchange contact and insurance information with the drivers involved.
Even if you think your injuries are minor, get checked by a medical professional. The shock and adrenaline rush following an accident can prevent you from feeling the pain of some injuries. In other cases, the nature of the injury itself is such that effects take time to appear, such as with brain trauma or nerve or spinal damage.
When You Should Call a Smyrna Lyft Accident Lawyer
As soon as possible after your accident, call John Foy & Associates to schedule a free consultation with a Smyrna Lyft accident lawyer. Georgia has a two-year statute of limitations for filing car accident claims. Once that window closes, your opportunity to file and collect compensation is over.
If you are the passenger or driver of a Lyft and are injured because of another driver’s negligence or recklessness, the at-fault driver’s insurance company may offer you a settlement quickly. Do not accept any settlement without consulting with a lawyer. The goal of the insurance company is to pay out as little as possible.
Your Lyft accident lawyer in Smyrna will recognize unreasonable offers and help you fight for a fair one.
The Complexities of Working with Multiple Insurance Companies
Lyft drivers carry their own car insurance, which is active when they are not using their cars for business. While on the job, they have additional coverage through Lyft. This insurance protects drivers, passengers or drivers and passengers of other vehicles involved in the accident and includes underinsured or uninsured Motorist Insurance (UMI) to protect Lyft drivers and passengers should the accident be with an uninsured driver.
While this thorough coverage is a good thing, it can raise problems. The private insurance and Lyft insurance companies may try to “point the finger” at each other to avoid making a payout. It is difficult for the average person, especially one suffering from injuries, to communicate with battling insurance companies and come to a fair resolution.
This is why you need a lawyer from the Strong Arm of Georgia to handle that battle for you.
Lyft’s Powerful Representation
According to Macrotrends, Lyft is an almost 5-billion-dollar company. A company that wealthy has powerful legal teams to protect its interests. Since Lyft’s drivers are independent contractors rather than employees, it is difficult to sue Lyft itself.
This does not mean you should accept a small settlement from anyone who offers. It means you need a skilled Smyrna Lyft accident attorney who understands the distinctions, laws, and options affecting your case and who can communicate with the parties involved knowledgeably.
