Victims of bus accidents are often severely injured, whether they are passengers or in another vehicle. The size and weight of a bus make it hard to maneuver, and they are at risk for rollover crashes. When a bus driver loses control, victims could be burned, crushed, trapped, or suffocated.
If you or a family member have been in a crash involving a bus in the southeast Atlanta area, you need a reputable Rex bus accident lawyer from John Foy & Associates. Our team has recovered over $1 billion in settlements and jury awards for our clients over the past two decades. We stand ready to help you.
Bus Crashes Can Cause Catastrophic Injuries
According to the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA), buses are involved in a disproportionate share of accidents on US roads. Over a 10-year period, school buses represented 39 percent of collisions, and transit bus accidents accounted for 34 percent.
Because most buses do not have seatbelts or other safety features, passengers are at risk of being thrown about the cabin during a rollover crash. In both school buses and transit buses, riders often have bags and other items that can become dangerous projectiles. When a bus hits another vehicle, the car could be pushed into oncoming traffic, crushed under the bus, or trapped between the bus and a concrete barrier.
Catastrophic injuries can result, such as brain, spine, or spinal cord damage. Victims could lose limbs or suffer chemical burns from engine fluids or gas. If you have been hit by or were riding on a bus when it crashed, you may end up permanently disabled. When children are involved on a school bus, they may face an uncertain future with extensive surgeries.
Potential Value of a Rex Bus Accident Claim
Being hurt in a bus accident in Rex could mean you were a passenger on the bus, a driver in another vehicle, or even a pedestrian. Each case is unique, so it is hard to estimate the potential value of a claim without the help of a bus accident attorney in Rex. After a free initial case evaluation, your lawyer can help you determine all the damages you could claim.
Compensatory Damages
Compensatory losses take the form of either economic or non-economic losses. Medical bills and items with specific receipts are considered economic, and non-economic covers things like the pain and suffering you experience. Both are valid and should be reimbursed fairly and appropriately for current and future costs.
Victims of bus accidents often pursue damages such as:
- Economic:
- Bills for doctor visits
- Hospital bills
- Travel expenses for treatment
- Loss of income
- Damage to a vehicle or personal items
- Prescription medications
- Physical rehabilitation therapy
- Crutches, wheelchairs, or other mobility devices
- Non-Economic:
- Pain and suffering
- Emotional distress
- Disfigurement and scarring
- Loss of enjoyment of life
- Anxiety, depression, PTSD, or other disorders
Compensatory damages are meant to help the victim recover what they have lost as a result of the accident. This means more than the medical bills that pile up. It also means reimbursing them for the financial and property losses they experienced. A Rex bus accident attorney from John Foy will work to discover every expense you are owed so you do not face bills you cannot pay.
Our Bus Accident Lawyers in Rex Will Work Hard for You
The legal system and insurance claims are so complicated that most people would not want to navigate them on their best day. When you have been injured in a bus crash, you need to concentrate on healing. You and your family do not need additional worry about how to seek compensation that will pay for your care.
Hiring a John Foy bus accident lawyer in Rex means you can set those concerns aside and let us take care of the paperwork and deadlines. We will provide multiple services to help you recover physically and financially.
Gathering Evidence
Accident scenes provide a wealth of evidence of what happened and who is at fault. However, if information such as police reports, photos, videos, and witness statements are not collected quickly, it can be difficult to prove how you were hurt. Our team will speak with witnesses and experts, review traffic camera footage, and hire a private accident investigator to ensure we have the whole story.
Medical Diagnosis, Treatment, and Prognosis
If you have been relatively healthy until your accident, you may not know who to see if you have serious injuries. After getting out of the hospital, you could need help finding the right doctor. Our lawyers will connect you with the experts to get you the best treatment. We can work with them for an estimate of the care you will need and how much it will cost.
Negotiating with Insurance Representatives
You might expect your insurance provider would be willing to cover all your expenses for your injuries, but this is rarely the case. Insurance companies dislike paying out money, and they will try to deny or minimize your claim by arguing against the evidence. Our bus accident lawyers know how to push back and aggressively seek the maximum settlement offer for your needs.
Fighting for You in Court
If your claim involves not just insurance but a personal injury lawsuit, you need John Foy & Associates by your side. We will handle all the legal actions and paperwork for you, discussing potential pre-trial settlements with opposing counsel. If needed, we will fight hard in court for everything you deserve.
