Federal Workers’ Compensation Benefits in Athens That You Need to Know About
An Athens federal workers’ compensation lawyer wants you to prioritize your recovery from your injury or illness. Meanwhile, they work diligently to get you maximum benefits. Below are the workers’ compensation benefits available to federal employees or their dependents.
Medical Treatment
FECA covers your medical treatment costs, including prescription, surgery, and therapy expenses. Your attorney will advise you to seek the medical care you need for your injury or illness. They will account for your medical treatment expenses as they prepare your benefits claim or appeal.
Wage-Loss Compensation
Tell your lawyer if your injury or illness keeps you from working. In this scenario, you could get two-thirds or 75% of your lost pay rate. The compensation you receive for your lost wages is based on whether you have dependents.
Vocational Rehabilitation
Help is available if you suffer a permanent disability that keeps you from returning to your federal job. With FECA, you can receive training, job placement, and other vocational rehabilitation benefits so you can work again.
Survivor Benefits
A spouse, domestic partner, or other survivors of a deceased federal employee could receive compensation for the late worker’s pay, money for this individual’s burial and funeral expenses, and other benefits.

How to Submit a Federal Workers’ Comp Claim or Appeal
Start the federal workers’ compensation claims process by notifying your employer if you are dealing with a work-related injury or illness. Next, hire a workers’ comp attorney, and they can submit your claim through the U.S. Department of Labor’s Employees’ Compensation Operations and Management Portal (ECOMP).
Your attorney tracks your claim and keeps you updated. Ideally, your benefits request is approved. Unfortunately, there are times when denials are issued. If you are denied benefits, your lawyer can appeal.
To appeal, your lawyer may ask OWCP to reconsider the claim. Alternatively, they could proceed with a hearing with the Branch of Hearings and Review (BHR) or present your case to the Employees’ Compensation Appeals Board (ECAB).
