A contingency fee-based attorney provides legal services upfront, with payment promised later if a personal injury case is won. However, there may be other costs associated with the case that are not considered a portion of the attorney’s fees, and that may mean you need to cover some of those costs yourself. Do contingency fees include case-related expenses, and how can you be sure when working with an Atlanta personal injury attorney?
What Are Case-Related Expenses?
Case-related expenses are typically fees paid related to the establishment of the lawsuit in a court of law, and these are typically not a part of the contingency fee arrangement. A contingency fee agreement, put in place with you and your attorney prior to the starting of the case, will outline the specific costs that you may be responsible for beyond the attorney fees. It is critical that you understand these costs before heading into your case.
Typically, the client is required to cover some of the costs associated with the case, including, for example, court filing fees. In some situations, these fees are set up to be paid later out of the settlement that is paid to the victim when they win their case. Other times, you must pay them as you go, and even if you lose the case, you may still owe these costs.
In all situations, you and our team at John Foy & Associates will work out the specific expectations of the agreement, including what fees you may have to pay, even if you lose your case. However, these fees are often very minimal in comparison to the amount that you may receive when you win your case. Also note that our legal team typically only takes on cases that are likely to yield a positive outcome on behalf of our clients, which means our contingency lawyer in Columbus, GA, is going to work hard to maximize your recovery.
What Special Charges Might You Have to Pay Out-of-Pocket?
No matter if you win or lose your case, you can expect to pay some additional costs that are not included in contingency fees. Some examples of this include court filing fees, fees related to gathering evidence, and similar costs. When you meet with our attorneys, we will provide you with clarity on what these fees may be so you have a full understanding of what to expect.
Is a Contingency Fee or Flat Fee a Better Choice When Selecting an Attorney?
There are some legal situations where a flat fee is charged by an attorney, such as in filing divorce documentation or setting up a will. However, in a personal injury case, the amount of time and work put into these cases often demands a much higher cost to the victim, and that would be a very high and even unapproachable fee to pay. If you are in need of legal help right now, contingency fee structures make that possible even if you do not have the funds upfront to cover legal costs.
One of the key reasons to consider contingency fee arrangements is when you are hurt and cannot work. You do not want to take money from your budget to pay an attorney’s flat fee or retainer fee when you may not obtain a settlement. With a no fee if you do not win setup, you do not have to worry about this or having the money upfront to cover your losses.

How to Get the Legal Services You Need from Our Contingency Fee-Based Legal Team
As a trusted, experienced legal team, when you reach out to John Foy & Associates, you know you are going to get the type and level of support you need, no matter what happens in your case. Our attorneys operate on a contingency basis, which means that you do not pay us anything if we do not win your case. This process starts with a free consultation where you can discuss your case openly with us, and we will provide honest, transparent information to you.
Our legal team will offer insight into what type of compensation you may be able to expect in your case, as well as whether we believe you could win it (or could get a higher level of recovery than what the insurance company may be willing to pay you right now). We are fully transparent with you about what to expect as well as what our services will include.
A component of your consultation is a review of the costs involved in your case, including any case-related expenses that you are responsible for paying yourself out of your pocket, no matter if you win or lose your case. We also offer insight into what our clients can expect to pay us for our services, which is often a percentage of the compensation you earn from the work we do. You can decide, at that point, if you wish to move forward with your case or not and sign the necessary arrangements to do so.
Why Should You Trust Us to Be Fair to You?
