Why Choose a Buford Rideshare Accident Attorney From Our Firm?
Rideshare accident claims are more complicated than typical car crashes because insurance coverage can change based on the driver’s status in the Uber or Lyft app. Our team focuses on identifying the exact facts that trigger rideshare coverage and matching those policies to the full scope of your injuries and losses.
As a Georgia personal injury firm, we handle rideshare cases throughout Buford and Gwinnett County. We know how local courts approach these claims, work regularly with insurance adjusters, and coordinate medical documentation to present a claim that accurately reflects how the crash has affected your work, health, and daily life.
How We Build Strong Uber and Lyft Claims
Our Buford rideshare accident lawyers begin with a detailed intake and review of police reports, medical records, photographs, and initial insurance communications. From there, we obtain app status logs, trip data, and rideshare company records to confirm when and how Uber or Lyft coverage applies.
Strong claims rely on physical and digital evidence. We seek vehicle event data recorder downloads, dashcam footage, nearby business or traffic camera video, and phone records when relevant. We also document scene conditions such as lighting, traffic controls, and road design in Buford.
When fault is disputed, we may work with accident reconstruction professionals to analyze speeds, braking, and impact angles. Their findings help support your version of events and counter attempts to shift blame or minimize liability.
Who Pays After an Uber Or Lyft Crash?
Who pays after a rideshare accident in Buford depends on who caused the crash and the driver’s status in the Uber or Lyft app at the time. Unlike standard car accidents, more than one insurance policy may apply.
- Driver not logged into the app: Only the driver’s personal auto insurance applies. Uber or Lyft coverage does not apply.
- Driver logged in and waiting for a ride request: Contingent rideshare liability coverage may apply if the driver’s personal policy does not fully cover the damages.
- Driver en route to pick up a passenger or transporting a passenger: Uber or Lyft typically provides up to $1,000,000 in third-party liability coverage, along with other potential coverages depending on the situation.
In addition to the rideshare driver’s coverage, other policies may be available, such as another at-fault driver’s insurance or your own uninsured/underinsured motorist (UM/UIM) coverage. Confirming which policies apply requires reviewing app data, timestamps, and trip records, which is why early investigation is important in rideshare claims.
Our rideshare accident attorneys in Buford can review the app data, identify all available insurance coverage, and pursue compensation from every responsible party.
Steps to Take After a Rideshare Collision
Immediate steps protect your health and your claim. Keep your communications simple and stick to facts.
- Make sure the crash is officially recorded: Request police and medical assistance so there is a formal report tied to the incident.
- Document the ride itself: Take screenshots of the rideshare trip, driver profile, and time stamps, along with photos of the vehicles and surroundings.
- Exchange and gather information: Collect details from all drivers, passengers, and anyone who witnessed the crash.
- Get checked by a medical provider: Even delayed symptoms should be evaluated and documented.
- Keep a running file: Save medical bills, messages from insurers, and any ride-related receipts or communications.
- Pause insurance discussions: Avoid recorded statements or quick resolutions until you understand how rideshare coverage applies.
Our legal team can take over these follow-up tasks if injuries or logistics make them difficult for you to handle. This allows you to focus on recovery while the legal details are addressed properly.

What You Can Recover When Filing a Rideshare Accident Claim
Recoverable damages for your claim may include medical expenses, follow-up treatment, lost wages, reduced earning capacity, and damage to your vehicle or other property. Claims may also account for pain, limitations on daily activities, and the disruption the crash has caused to your routine.
When injuries have lasting effects, we work with medical providers and vocational professionals to estimate future treatment needs and long-term income losses. In more serious cases, damages may also include scarring, disfigurement, or loss of consortium when allowed under Georgia law.
If a rideshare crash results in a death, surviving family members may pursue a wrongful death claim. These claims can include funeral and burial expenses, the full value of the life of the person who died, and certain related losses.
Time Limits That Apply to Rideshare Cases in Georgia
Most Georgia personal injury claims must be filed within two years from the date of the crash. Property damage claims usually have a four‑year deadline. If a government vehicle or entity is involved, special ante litem notices with much shorter timelines may apply.
Missing a deadline can bar your claim. Our Buford rideshare accident attorneys calculate the correct time limits, identify all potential defendants, and move promptly to preserve evidence. Early investigation often strengthens fault findings and damages proof.
