Liability Insurance Coverage and Augusta Golf Cart Accidents
Injuries sustained in a car accident by another driver are covered by auto insurance. Many golf cart owners falsely assume their golf cart is covered under existing insurance policies. A golf cart accident lawyer in Augusta, GA, will investigate what insurance coverage may be available to help you file a claim.
Where an accident occurs will impact your claim. Being injured in an Augusta golf cart accident on someone’s private property may be covered by the homeowner’s insurance coverage. Companies allowing employees to use golf carts are responsible for training and safety, maintenance, and ensuring golf carts are used safely, as well as proper insurance coverage.
Drivers using golf carts on Georgia roadways where permitted should verify if their auto insurance covers golf cart accidents. Auto insurance typically does not automatically cover alternative vehicles, leaving many golf cart owners uninsured and personally liable for damages they cause. Registration and minimum insurance coverage are required for golf carts used on designated roads in Georgia, according to the Georgia Department of Revenue Motor Vehicle Division.
Possible Damages in an Augusta Golf Cart Accident
The injuries and costs you incur from a golf cart accident will determine the type of compensation you may seek in damages. A golf cart accident lawyer in Augusta will comprehensively evaluate your damages. You may be compensated for the following:
- All current and future medical cost
- Property damage
- Lost income
- Pain and suffering
- Medical equipment costs
- Out-of-pocket expenses, such as travel costs
To protect your claim from undervaluing and other tactics that may reduce your claim, contact John Foy & Associates to begin building your case immediately. Georgia’s modified comparative negligence law (Ga Code §51-12-33) allows for the reduction of compensation according to your percentage of fault in the accident. Damages, such as pain and suffering, are more challenging to quantify and benefit from the experienced evaluation of a golf cart accident attorney in Augusta, GA.

Take These Steps After a Golf Cart Accident in Augusta, GA
Any golf cart accident should be thoroughly documented. However, the first priority in an accident is to seek medical care. Take these steps to increase your potential of winning a personal injury claim:
- Call 911 if the accident occurs on a roadway or if injuries are significant no matter where a golf cart accident occurs
- Take pictures of the accident scene and your injuries
- Exchange contact and insurance information with other drivers involved or property owners
- Get contact information from eyewitnesses
- Schedule a doctor’s appointment if your injuries do not require immediate emergency medical attention, and follow your doctor’s prescribed care plan
- Contact a golf cart accident attorney in Augusta
We will help you sort through insurance challenges and begin documenting your claim. We will also discuss what you should not do, like posting on social media after a golf cart accident. It is also imperative that you do not give a recorded statement to an insurance company before you read this.
When to File an Augusta Golf Cart Accident Claim
A claim will be filed with the at-fault party’s insurance company to begin the compensation process. Settling a claim too quickly may prevent you from knowing the full extent of your damage potential. A golf car accident lawyer in Augusta, GA, may recommend filing a lawsuit when a fair settlement cannot be negotiated.
The statute of limitations for filing a personal injury lawsuit in Georgia (GA Code §9-3-33) is two years from when the injuries occur. You have four years from the accident date to file a legal action for property damage (GA Code §9-3-32). Failing to meet these critical deadlines will impact your ability to seek compensation.
Individuals injured in golf cart accidents who are minors will have more time to file a claim. Because of exceptions to these statutes, it is always recommended that you seek guidance from an Augusta golf cart accident lawyer. Taking action as soon as possible will also contribute to preserving the evidence in a claim.
