We’ve all seen ads for car accident lawyers. But often, after being in an accident, you’ll find yourself uncertain what a car accident lawyer does and whether they can help you. Is it worth hiring one?
Atlanta car accident lawyer come from many different backgrounds. All are personal injury attorneys, which means they work to help victims of accidents or injuries get a financial recovery—in other words, the money to pay for medical care and other costs. But some attorneys focus only on helping victims, while others take all kinds of cases. There are lawyers who only handle car accident injuries part-time alongside other sorts of work. There are even lawyers who will represent car accident victims on one case, then turn around and represent the insurance company on another case.
We believe that clients get the best experience and results from attorneys who work exclusively to help victims.
What does a car accident lawyer do?
If you have been injured in a car accident, there are several things an attorney can do for you:
- Help you understand your legal rights ands options, often in a single free session
- Recommend a doctor who specializes in your kind of injury and will give you the full treatment you need
- Help you hold off medical bills until you have received your insurance money
- Negotiate with the insurance company on your behalf
- If needed, take your case to court to get you the money you need
Throughout the entire process, the goal of your car accident lawyer is to get you the most money possible, so that all of your needs are taken care of.
Do I need a car accident lawyer?
You are not required to have a lawyer after a car accident. You can make an insurance claim on your own and attempt to get the money you need. Unfortunately, what we see in many cases is that the insurance company will offer a lowball figure—especially to a victim without legal representation. At first, this money may seem like “quick cash,” but you may be dealing with your injury for months or years. It may even affect your ability to work. That’s why we believe in assessing the full cost of all treatments before giving the insurance company a number, and then bargaining hard to get that amount. This amount is often much larger than what the insurance company initially offered.
