What Should I Do After a UPS Work Accident?
There are several steps you should take immediately after a UPS work accident. Taking these measures can help you address any injuries you’ve sustained and ensure your Georgia UPS workers’ compensation claim is as successful as possible.
Take the following actions after a workplace incident:
Seek Medical Attention
Getting checked out by a medical professional after a workplace accident is incredibly important. A doctor can treat your injuries, prevent further complications, and identify any injuries you might not have noticed. However, you’ll want to make sure your employer approves the treatment provider you see.
If you see a provider that isn’t approved by your employer, you probably won’t be able to receive the compensation you need to cover your medical bills. That said, if you require immediate medical attention for an emergency condition, you’ll want to go to the nearest emergency room for treatment.
File an Accident Report
Another important step to take immediately after a workplace accident at UPS is to file an accident report with your employer. Failing to file a report within 30 days of the incident could stop you from getting the helpful benefits you’re owed.
Hire an Attorney
Hiring a skilled Atlanta workers’ compensation lawyer to help with your UPS workers’ comp claim can dramatically increase the likelihood that you’ll receive a fair payment. An attorney can calculate how much you’re owed, use evidence to file a facts-based claim and fight for every last penny of compensation you need to get back on your feet.
What Benefits Can I Get From a UPS Workers’ Comp Claim in Georgia?
A successful workers’ compensation claim for a UPS accident in Atlanta, Georgia, can yield several helpful forms of compensation. Depending on how the incident has impacted your life and livelihood, you could be eligible to receive any of the following benefits:
- Weekly wage payments: If your doctor recommends that you stay home from work for seven or more days to recuperate from your injury, you could qualify to receive tax-exempt weekly payments equal to two-thirds of your normal weekly earnings.
- Medical benefits: Medical benefits can cover the cost of hospital care, treatment from your doctor, prescription medications, physical therapy, assistive devices, and several other forms of care.
- Disability: If you’ve suffered an injury that qualifies you for disability benefits, you could receive compensation to help you manage your long-term condition. An attorney can determine if you’re eligible for these benefits and use your medical records to prove you deserve financial support.
- Death benefits: If you’ve lost a loved one in a UPS work accident in Georgia, a workers’ compensation claim can yield compensation to cover funeral costs, burial expenses, and more.
How Long Do I Have To File a Workers’ Compensation Claim in Georgia?
Once you’ve sought medical treatment for your injury and filed an accident report with your employer, you won’t want to wait long to find a trusted UPS workers’ compensation attorney from Georgia to help you with your claim. Delaying your claim could make it difficult to comply with the state’s statute of limitations for workers’ comp claims.
You have one year from the date of your accident to file a claim. If you don’t act within this short timeframe, you could be denied the benefits you need to get your life back on track. Getting in touch with an attorney ASAP can give them the time they need to investigate your incident, file a claim, and negotiate a payment that addresses your post-accident needs.
