You can recover workers’ compensation benefits if you are injured on a business trip. To do so, you will need to file a workers’ compensation claim. You should also expect your employer to dispute your request for workers’ compensation and plan accordingly.

A workers’ compensation lawyer from our team can review your case and help you file your request for damages right away.
How a Workers’ Compensation Claim Works in Georgia
In Georgia, the State Board of Workers’ Compensation (SBWC) offers resources to help Peach State residents apply for workers’ compensation. You can submit a claim to the board and send information about your claim to your employer and their insurance company. At this point, you may be able to get workers’ compensation.
If you suffer an injury on a business trip, you have one year from the date it occurred to file your workers’ compensation claim. There is a one-year statute of limitations for workers’ compensation requests in Georgia. For those who want more than a year, they lose the right to seek damages as part of a workers’ compensation request.
John Foy & Associates has a team in place that knows the ins and outs of workers’ compensation law in Georgia. Reach out to a workers’ compensation lawyer from our team today. When you do, we can help you request workers’ compensation and get fair compensation for a work injury you suffered on a business trip.
When to Request Workers’ Compensation in Georgia
If you are injured on a business trip, do not wait to report the issue. You can go to a doctor and receive any medical care you need. Also, you can notify SBWC about your injury, and you may be able to receive workers’ compensation benefits.
Once you file your workers’ compensation claim, your employer has 21 days to investigate and submit a report to SWBC. If there is a dispute regarding your eligibility for workers’ compensation benefits, a hearing can be set up. In this situation, it pays to have an experienced workers’ compensation lawyer at your side.
If you hire a workers’ compensation attorney that has an outstanding track record, you can position yourself for legal success. Your lawyer can help you prepare for a hearing or negotiate a settlement before it takes place. In addition, your attorney will make sure your legal rights are protected as you move through the workers’ compensation process.
Information You Can Provide to Show that You Deserve Workers’ Compensation Benefits
Following an injury that you suffer on a business trip, collect as much evidence as you can to support your request for workers’ compensation. You can get medical bills and records that highlight the severity of your injury. If anyone saw your injury happen, these individuals can serve as witnesses.
A workers’ compensation attorney can help you gather evidence and determine the best way to present it. Each piece of evidence you collect can help you show that you deserve compensation for your injury. If you have an overwhelming amount of evidence, it can become extremely difficult for your employer to avoid compensating you for your business trip injury.
In the best-case scenario, your employer may offer a workers’ compensation case settlement that lines up with your expectations. Before you accept a settlement, it helps to consult with your attorney. Then, you and your lawyer can weigh the pros and cons of any settlement offer and determine whether it is in your best interests to approve it.

How Much Money You Can Get in a Workers’ Compensation Case
The amount of money you can receive in workers’ compensation following a business trip injury varies. You may be eligible for temporary disability benefits through workers’ compensation in Georgia. If you suffer a permanent injury, you may receive money to cover the costs associated with it long into the future.
A workers’ compensation lawyer wants their client to get the most compensation they can. For those who suffer an injury on a business trip, it is important to partner with a workers’ compensation attorney right away. Your attorney can review the facts of your case and make sure you are well-positioned to get the workers’ comp benefits you deserve.
Of course, your ability to return to work and perform at the same level you did prior to your business trip injury can affect how much you can secure in workers’ compensation. Your attorney will work with you to calculate the costs you have incurred from your injury. They will make sure you can present a compelling argument to get compensation that covers the short- and long-term expenses associated with your injury.
How to Choose the Right Lawyer to Represent You in a Workers’ Compensation Case
A workers’ compensation case can escalate quickly. Your employer may pressure you to accept a lowball settlement after you suffer a business trip injury. If you act rashly, you may inadvertently lose money that otherwise can help you fully rebound from your injury.
As you look for a lawyer to represent you in your workers’ compensation case, consider the attorney’s experience. It is paramount to choose a lawyer that knows how to handle workers’ compensation negotiations. The best attorney for a workers’ compensation case likely has received many positive reviews from clients since they work diligently to fulfill their clients’ requests.
It helps to meet with an attorney to discuss your workers’ compensation case, too. During your meeting, you can share your legal concerns and questions. If you believe an attorney is committed to helping you in any way possible, hire them, and let your lawyer do what it takes to win or settle your workers’ compensation case.
