The August John Foy & Associates Strong Arm Pitcher of the Month is Hurston Waldrep. The right-hander started five games and posted a 4-0 record along with a stunning 1.01 ERA in 35.2 innings pitched. The Braves won all six games in which he appeared.
During August, Waldrep walked only 11 hitters, struck out 33, and did not give up a home run until his August 31st outing against the Phillies. He logged an impressive 1.09 WHIP, holding both the White Sox and Guardians scoreless before turning the games over to the bullpen.
The Braves seem to have found a strong arm to take them into the future. If you need help from an Atlanta personal injury lawyer, you can call on the Strong Arm™ as well. Our team has won over $1 billion for accident victims. Call today for a free consultation.
Hurston Waldrep’s Career with the Braves
The Braves selected Waldrep 24th overall in the 2023 MLB Draft, and he spent his 2023 season in the minor leagues. He struggled in two Major League starts in 2024, giving up an abysmal 13 earned runs in two losses. After that, he was relegated to the minors for the majority of the season.
Waldrep again began the 2025 season with the AAA Gwinnett Stripers, but the Braves called him up on August 3rd. He made his 2025 debut at the historic MLB Speedway Classic, a game that was scheduled for August 2nd but was suspended in the first inning due to rain.
In what was technically a relief appearance, Waldrep only gave up three hits and one earned run in 5.2 innings to earn his first Major League win. Waldrep’s pitching throughout the rest of the month has given Braves fans good reason to feel optimistic about his future in Atlanta.

Waldrep’s Baseball Career Before Atlanta
Waldrep starred at Georgia’s Thomasville High School as both a baseball pitcher and a football placekicker and punter, earning All-State honors in both sports. On the mound, he showed early promise with a powerful fastball.
He began his college career at Southern Miss in 2021, transitioning into a starter in 2022. Waldrep transferred to the University of Florida for the 2023 season and became one of the top collegiate pitchers in the country, known for his devastating splitter.
Waldrep set a Florida program record with 13.8 strikeouts per nine innings and was named a Second Team All–American by D1Baseball. Waldrep’s college success helped elevate him into a Brave’s first-round selection in the 2023 MLB Draft.
