Get Immediate Help from a Hit and Run Accident Lawyer

A hit and run might leave you feeling hopeless. Worries might flood your mind like:

• How you’ll pay for your medical costs
• What you’ll do if you can’t work
• What happens if you can’t find the other driver
• The costs of vehicle repairs

Contacting a lawyer is the best way to get answers. But make sure you work with a hit and run accident lawyer. You’ll need someone experienced in these types of cases.

It’s normal to have worries, but you should know the law is on your side. You can protect your rights by working with an experienced lawyer as soon as possible.

Uninsured Motorist Insurance Can Help

After a hit and run, we’ll work to find the other driver. However, you have a backup if the other driver evades us. You can probably file an uninsured motorist claim with your insurance company (Georgia Code §33-7-11).

Uninsured motorist coverage is optional in Georgia, but most drivers have it. When you cannot find a driver, the law treats them as a driver without insurance. Call your insurance agent if you’re not sure if you have this coverage.

Insurance Companies Are Not on Your Side

Sadly, even your own insurance company is not safe to trust. Insurance companies care most about their money. After you file a claim, the insurer will look for ways to save costs.

Call a lawyer even if a claim is with your own insurer. Your lawyer will help protect your rights. If the uninsured motorist claim is paying for your accident, you deserve the fullest recovery possible.

If you find the other driver, you can file a claim with their insurance company. But the above still applies. It’s best to have a lawyer on your side.

Steps to Take if the Other Driver Leaves the Scene

No one is totally prepared for a hit and run crash. It will probably be a shock when the other driver flees. But there are ways you can protect your rights at the scene.

Here are some steps to take if the driver hits you and leaves.

Stay and Call the Police

A hit and run is so frustrating. It’s normal to be angry with the other driver. You might even consider chasing them—but that’s a bad idea. If you leave the scene, the situation will just get worse.

Stay at the scene, and take some deep breaths. Call 911 to report the accident to the police. When the police arrive, tell them what happened.

Make sure officers create a crash report. You will need to request a copy of this later.

Note Details About the Driver

Get any details you can about the other driver, such as:

• Car make, model, and color
• The driver’s appearance
• License plate number
• Driver’s actions right before the crash

Tell the police about anything you remember. Any information you have can help find the driver. Write down these details to give to your lawyer too.

Check for Injuries

Check yourself and any passengers for injuries. Call 9-1-1 if anyone needs an ambulance.

If you don’t need an ambulance, see a doctor after you leave the scene. You’ll need to document your treatment—and do it soon. It will hurt your case if you wait to see a doctor.

Snap Pictures of the Scene

Use your phone to get pictures of:

• Your injuries
• Your vehicle damage
• The whole accident scene

Don’t be afraid of taking too many pictures. Photo evidence will preserve the accident scene. Your lawyer can use the images when investigating your case.

If your injuries get worse or change, take more pictures. Document whatever you can of your damages.

Look for Witnesses

Look around to see if anyone saw your accident happen. Talk to those people. Witnesses might remember details that you missed. Maybe they got more information on the driver who caused your accident.

Ask witnesses for their names and contact information. You might even use your phone’s voice recorder to get statements. Your lawyer can use all of this information when building your claim.

Call a Hit and Run Accident Lawyer

Hit and run accidents are very overwhelming. They’re also complicated. But thankfully, you don’t have to handle your case alone.

Contact an experienced hit and run accident lawyer after your crash. Your lawyer will know what to do first. They’ll help you:

• Search for the driver who hit you
• Gather evidence from the accident
• Calculate your damages
• Handle the insurance companies
• Fight for the money you deserve

At the very least, schedule a free consultation. You can learn a lot during a free legal call. The lawyer can tell if you have a case and what you’ll need to do.
