The sheer lack of attention involved in driving the wrong way down the interstate is shocking. Even if you missed all the wrong-way signs, the sight of four or more lanes of traffic with cars coming at you would be enough to shock you out of your reverie, right? Sadly, for the second time in three days, a wrong-way driver has gotten into a wreck on I-75 due to wrong-way driving.
This crash was quite severe. A 2002 Chevrolet Avalanche was heading south in the northbound lanes in Henry County around 1 AM. The vehicle managed to hit four others before the driver was flung from the vehicle. He was not wearing a seatbelt. He is now at Grady Memorial Hospital in critical condition. Many of the others involved were also taken to the hospital for various injuries, some critical. I-75 had to be shut down for five hours as police investigated and cleaned up the mess. It is suspected that the driver of the Avalanche was intoxicated, a common reason for people to end up driving the wrong way down the interstate.
Atlanta is full of one-way roads and a frustrated driver might try to quickly sneak down one the wrong way to cut down time on their drive. This is very dangerous and should never be done.
