13 WMAZ reports that a Milledgeville resident was killed and another person injured in an ATV wreck Friday that also involved a Hancock County Deputy.
Sometime late Friday evening, according to spokespeople from the Georgia Highway Patrol, a chase involving a 4-wheeler turned deadly in the town of Sparta, Georgia. A Hancock County Sheriff’s Department Deputy was pursuing the 4-wheeler on St. Mark Church Road when the driver of the 4-wheeler tried to make a sharp left turn onto Pumping Station Road. The 4-wheeler went off the road and struck an embankment, ejecting the driver and his passenger from the vehicle.
The deputy also crashed attempting to make the turn, hitting a tree. One of the people on the ATV was taken to Augusta University Medical Center, where she died of her injuries. The deputy was treated at the Medical Center of Navicent Health in Macon for his injuries. The accident is still under investigation by the Georgia State Patrol, and the Hancock County Sheriff did not return phone calls from news outlets regarding the incident.
