OnlineAthens and the Athens Banner-Herald reported on a traffic accident in the college town of Athens, GA last weekend involving a senior member of the University of Georgia varsity football team.
A defensive back for UGA’s Division I football team was involved in a multi-vehicle accident in Athens following Saturday’s game versus the University of Kentucky. Athens – Clarke County Police responded to a call near 520 Macon Highway to investigate the incident, according to spokespeople for the police department.
While details about the accident are scarce, the young football player was taken to Piedmont Athens Regional Medical Center and treated in the trauma center for his injuries, which are not believed to be threatening to his life. A full recovery is expected.
The UGA director of sports medicine commented that “We would like to thank the emergency medical technicians, physicians, nurses, and other medical personnel who helped care for [the student-athlete.] His family would also like to thank everyone for their thoughts, prayers and well-wishes during this time.”
