The Jackson Progress-Argus reported recently that an accident on Interstate 75 north of Forsyth, GA on Veteran’s Day left a tractor-trailer driver and passenger dead.
Officials from the Georgia State Patrol and the Butts County Sheriff’s Office have stated that the incident occurred around 1:15 a.m. on November 11 near mile marker 201 at the Interstate 75 interchange with GA Highway 36. Two northbound trucks collided on the interstate, forcing one to jackknife and veer off into the center median of the highway. The truck then overturned, inflicting fatal injuries on both occupants. Their names have not yet been released pending notification of their next of kin.
The second truck veered off to the other side of the roadway and impacted multiple trees, and the driver was transported to Macon Medical with injuries that were not believed to be life-threatening. His condition is not known at this time.
Two other vehicles on the highway struck debris, and the highway was shut down to facilitate cleanup and investigation for several hours.
