Morgan spoke to Rolling Stone about the accident.
After the accident on the New Jersey turnpike that left him in a coma for 8 days and blind for six days after waking, Tracy Morgan tells Rolling Stone magazine that he contemplated suicide.
The Saturday Night Live alum stated, “I thought I was going to die for a long time.” He continued, “My thoughts – I was in a very dark place. I was sitting right here, contemplating suicide. I couldn’t walk.”
The accident in 2014 involved an 18-wheeler plowing into the back of the limo that was carrying Tracy Morgan and long-time friend, James “Jimmy Mack” McNair, along with others. McNair lost his life as a result of the accident and five others were injured. Morgan suffered a severe brain injury, broken leg, broken nose, and ribs.
Kevin Roper, the driver of the semi-truck that struck the vehicle Morgan was traveling in, was charged with multiple crimes. The crimes included aggravated manslaughter, vehicular homicide, and eight counts of aggravated assault.
Since the accident, Morgan has made a complete recovery. The Emmy Awards last year marked his return to the public eye. He also hosted the 41st Season of SNL, which reunited him with many of his “30-Rock” co-stars. The cast members did a spoof of the canceled sitcom.
