It is always tragic when even a single person loses their life in an accident. Compound that times three and it can seem even more tragic. Unfortunately for the friends and families of three gay men in Atlanta, they are having to come to grips with just such a tragedy.
Early in the morning on Saturday, January 11, 2016, three men were traveling home from a party on Interstate 75 northbound. The driver apparently lost control of the vehicle and veered onto and then over the barrier. The accident happened on the Buford Highway Connector. The car then fell to the interstate. Tragically, all three men lost their lives in the accident.
Earlier in the evening, Adam Bailey, 33; Cordel Fowler, 24; and Esu Manzano, 36 had attended the birthday celebration of events promotor AC Cornelius. Cornelius is the CEO of Alter-Ego Entertainment. Cornelius reacted to the news of the three men’s deaths in a Facebook post.
“How do you lose 3 good friends all at one time and on my damn birthday.” Cornelius then shared the last images captured of the three men, professing that his missed them.
Fowler was active with gay events company Rockstars Productions in the past. Their CEO, JuJu Rock, also reacted to news of the tragedy on Facebook.
Friends of Fowler and friends of Bailey each launched GoFundMe campaigns to help fund funeral expenses and to help with costs of a memorial. The Fowler campaign raised just over $3,000 in a few hours. The Bailey campaign raised over $4,000.
