The wheels of justice can be slow, but they do turn. It can take well over a year to fully resolve a complex crash case, but all cases do end. Here’s an example of such a case from the AJC.
In 2015, a wrong-way driver got onto I-75 the wrong way at Stockbridge. He collided head-on with another vehicle and a five-car pileup ensued. Most of the people only had minor injuries, but the first driver that got hit was injured seriously.
Now the sentence in that case has come down. The driver will serve ten years in prison and five years of probation. He pled guilty to the charges that were given. The prosecutor says that the family is satisfied with this punishment and looks forward to moving on.
We hope that the family was able to secure adequate compensation as well, or will now that the criminal case is resolved. Ongoing medical expenses can create a huge financial burden. It’s actually a leading cause of bankruptcy.
