There are three things that are dangerous to all drivers on the road. DUI, distracted driving, and driver fatigue. All three of these keep a driver from paying attention to the road. They can also make them take unnecessary risks. And they can cause accidents.
WSB Radio reported on a tragic accident after a fishing trip. Two teens were on their way back from the overnight event in a truck. They had stayed up all night fishing and drove tired. While they were on Hightower Road in Cherokee County, the driver fell asleep at the wheel.
He crashed into the embankment and broke his arm. His friend was killed. Police are still investigating the crash, but they blame driver fatigue.
The deceased’s parents forgave the driver, saying it could just as easily have been their son behind the wheel instead.
You should never drive when you’re fatigued. It’s just as bad as driving drunk. Pull over on the side of the road or get to a hotel as soon as possible if you’re tired. You can even pull into some parking lots. Walmart has a policy of allowing people to sleep in their cars in their parking lots for most of their stores. Don’t try to push yourself through fatigue. Sleep will win every time.
