Today we have a tragic story reported by the AJC about a college student that was killed under strange circumstances. The accident happened in Oconee County.
The student had just finished up the semester and was preparing to go home, but for reasons unknown, she was walking along the road around the intersection of Ga. 10 loop and Ga. 316.
Police initially responded to reports of a wrong-way driver in the area and a pedestrian in the roadway. When they arrived, they saw two vehicles. One belonged to the young woman, who was dead in the roadway. The other belonged to the driver that hit her.
According to the other driver’s report, the woman walked into his lane before he had time to react. He stopped at the scene. Police believe that the woman was the one driving the wrong way on the road in the initial report.
It is unknown why she was out at 3:50 A.M., nor why she thought it would be wise to cross the dangerous road at night. UGA sent out condolences to the family and student body for the incident, as do we.
