Speed is often a factor in many accidents. Speed limits are established for the safety of all drivers on the road. When these are violated, accidents that result can be catastrophic.
A fatal June 3rd accident shut down Windy Hill Road in Smyrna for more than six hours.
An orange 2009 Dodge Charger driven by 31-year-old David Fuller of Locust Grove was traveling at speeds of 100 mph when it collided with a 1979 Chevrolet Monte Carlo. The Monte Carlo had been heading northbound on Atlanta road at about 1:29 a.m. when the collision occurred.
The force of the collision split the Monte Carlo in half and the car exploded. The driver of the car, 26-year-old Orsornio Guadalupe of Smyrna, died at the scene.
A passenger in the Charger was said to have suffered life-threatening injuries in the accident. The driver of the Charger had non-life-threatening injuries. The passenger was taken to WellStar Kennestone Hospital for their injuries.
Smyrna police spokesperson Louis Defense stated, “We could tell speed was a factor.” He also stated that other attributes of the crash are still under investigation.
Fuller has been charged with felony homicide by vehicle and felony serious injury by vehicle. He was also charged with misdemeanor charges of reckless driving and fleeing and attempting to elude arrest.
Windy Hill Rd, which is a major artery to Interstate 75, was shut down for several hours at Atlanta Road, blocking traffic.
