The holidays are a time for traveling to grandparent’s houses to see relatives for those family get-togethers where memories are created and fruitcake is avoided. With all of this traveling, accidents become more frequent.
On Thanksgiving Day this year, a six-vehicle chain reaction car accident occurred on Interstate 285 eastbound. The incident occurred near the Peachtree Industrial Boulevard exits and brought traffic to a standstill for nearly an hour on the holiday.
A twelve year old girl was injured critically in the crash. She sadly succumbed to her injuries after being transported to the hospital. Police released the name of the child as Allison Beasley. Another child was seriously injured in the crash. Both children were under the age of 12. Also reported were two other people sustaining injuries. Their condition is unknown. Investigators are still trying to piece together what happened to have caused the accident.
Interstate 285, which makes a loop around the Atlanta Metropolitan area, was recently announced as the most dangerous interstate in the country. A police spokesperson at the scene became emotional when giving a statement regarding the accident. He urged people to be thankful for their family and to drive safe.
Witnesses snapped a photo of an officer holding a small child who had been involved in the accident. It was submitted to a local news station, where it was shown on television during newscasts and placed on the station’s website.
