Last week, six Atlanta fire fighters were injured in an auto accident while en route to a blaze in southwest Atlanta. Four of those injured were riding in a fire engine and the other two were inside a department SUV. The collision occurred at the intersection of Lee and Van Buren streets.
The six fire fighters were headed to a warehouse fire in the 1900 block of Murphy Avenue when their vehicles collided. A department spokesperson stated that all six suffered injuries worthy of being taken to the hospital to be evaluated. The two in the SUV were injured the worst. As of later in the week, five had been released from the hospital. A sixth remained due to their injuries. None of the injuries were life-threatening, however.
The warehouse fire was extinguished. The cause of the blaze is still under investigation.
