In a great many accidents, it’s easy for the police on the scene to tell who was at fault and the circumstances surrounding the accident. There are cases, however, which require more investigation. This can occur primarily when the drivers are unable to tell police what happened or they have conflicting stories. This may also happen when there are few witnesses. In these cases, many police departments, as well as the Georgia State Patrol, have accident reconstruction teams which go to work to help identify the causes of an accident.
The Union-Recorder reports on an accident being investigated by the Georgia State Patrol’s Specialized Reconstruction Collison Team (SRCT).
The crash occurred at about 7:40 a.m. last Thursday in Milledgeville, Georgia. The SRCT was back on the scene Tuesday until after lunch. The team is expected to return to the site of the wreck on Wednesday and work until early afternoon.
24-year-old Breonna Russell was identified as driving a Dodge Avenger at “a high rate of speed” when it collided with a RAV 4 being driven by 29-year-old Brooke Shelton, of Monticello.
Also in Russell’s vehicle were her children, 1-year-old Maliek Bundrage and 3-year-old Marley Bundrage, as well as 6-year-old Davian Allen.
Sadly, Allen was killed in the crash. Russell and her two other children were also injured. Shelton was critically injured in the crash as well.
Preliminary investigation revealed that Shelton failed to yield the right-of-way to Russell as she turned onto Robertson Mill Road.
