Fox 5 News Atlanta reported recently on a motor vehicle accident in Sandy Springs Thursday evening, allegedly due to distracted driving, that involved a Sandy Springs Police Department patrol cruiser near the interchange of Roswell Road and Interstate 285 West.
According to officials with the Sandy Springs Police Department, the incident took place Thursday evening in Sandy Springs, a suburb on the north side of the Atlanta metro area. A Sandy Springs Police Department officer was pulled over on the shoulder handling an accident with his emergency lights activated when another driver, 33 years of age, struck her vehicle. The driver had been allegedly texting and driving and claimed to have not seen the marked and visible police car prior to the accident.
The driver received citations for distracted driving (cellphone usage), failure to maintain lane, and violation of Georgia’s move-over law.
