While taking a break from his work, a Riverdale man was mauled by a Fayette County Sheriff’s K-9 outside Walmart. The incident happened on Thursday morning, around 2:00 a.m.
According to the sheriff, Mang Dieke, 52, was sitting drinking his coffee when he heard a door pop and the next thing he knew, there was a dog in his face.
Dieke was attacked twice by the dog before the deputy could restrain Darko, the K-9. Dieke suffered injuries to the arm, side, and groin. He was taken to Piedmont Fayette Hospital and then transferred to Grady Memorial Hospital for treatment of his injuries.
No one knows why the door opened, but speculation is due to someone else’s remote car key that may have triggered it. Sheriff Major Bryan Woodie stated they later spoke with the manufacturer of the door lock and were told those particular mechanisms hadn’t been sold in two years for that reason.
