Despite all the training they receive in driving, even police officers can have a bad day. They can become involved in accidents like any other driver. Sometimes, they even collide with other police cars.
On Thursday night, in midtown Atlanta, two police officers collided. The two officers were responding to a shots fired call that occurred just after 9 p.m.
Atlanta’s Zone 5 officers responded to a call alleging that shots had been fired behind Suite Lounge, located on Luckie Street.
A police SUV and a patrol car were both responding to the call when they collided at the intersection of Spring Street and North Avenue.
A witness to the accident said that neither officer slowed down while proceeding through the intersection.
Carolyn Royal, an employee at Goodfellas Pizza and Wings, reported, “We heard all the cops coming this way. When they got right there, they hit each other.”
The collision spun the SUV around and damaged the patrol car’s driver side door. The damage to the door was extensive enough that the police officer had to be cut from the car.
The trapped officer, whose name was not released, was taken to the hospital in good condition.
Officers who attended the scene where the shots were allegedly fired did not find a victim of a shooting.
Both incidents are being investigated.
