Driving drunk can lead to speeding, which can lead to an accident. Unfortunately for one woman, that accident involved a police vehicle.
A drunk driver was arrested after crashing into the rear of a police car at speeds of 100 m.p.h.
The accident occurred on Interstate 20 on Monday, September 26th. The Villa Rica Police squad car was traveling at about 70 m.p.h. when it was struck from behind by a large SUV at a high rate of speed.
The police vehicle, a 2010 Crown Victoria, had major damage to the rear of the car. A propane tank in the trunk of the car did not explode, thankfully.
Sarina Thames of Carrollton was charged with driving under the influence, following too close, and driving on a suspended license.
Luckily, the police officer she rear-ended was experienced behind the wheel. Authorities say that if it had been a less experienced driver, the results could have been much worse.
On board camera caught the incident up until the moment of impact, then went black.
Police are not surprised that alcohol was a factor in the accident.
The officer involved was not seriously injured. He is at home recovering.
Thames has been released on bond.
