Police Chase in Northwest Atlanta Ends in Crash
Police chases can often end in injuries to other people, especially when crashes occur as a result of the chase. Because of the speeds involved in police pursuits, those crashes often result in serious injuries. In fact, as many as 300 people are killed annually as a result of high-speed police chases. In some cases, those injured are able to bring a lawsuit against the municipality whose police were engaged in the police chase. WSB TV reports on an auto accident that occurred as the result of a police chase.
The chase was initiated from a joint operation between Atlanta Police and the Georgia State Patrol looking into auto thefts in the area. The accident that occurred was related to a chase that occurred earlier in the week where shots were fired.
The Georgia State Patrol is investigating the chase that led to a crash on H.E. Holmes Drive at Rockwood Avenue in northwest Atlanta. Troopers say that they tried to pull a stolen car over, but the vehicle sped away.
While chasing the car, it pulled out onto H.E. Holmes and crashed into another vehicle.
Troopers say that drugs were found in the car.
While on the way to assist in the chase, a trooper was involved in a crash on H.E. Holmes at Collier Road. The driver of the car was taken to the hospital to be treated for injuries.
Officials say that it has not yet been determined who was at fault in the crash.
An Atlanta Police officer was in the Georgia State Patrol vehicle with the trooper at the time of the crash. Neither officer was injured.
