Fleeing from the police is never a good idea. If you have learned anything from the television show “Cops” you should know that you will eventually be caught. Fleeing can lead to accidents and cause people injury, which can make the charges a person would face worse.
Last week, a police chase that began with a stolen car led to one person being injured and three people being arrested.
On Tuesday, June 14, Rockdale County Sheriff’s Department was involved in a chase that led to multiple car crashes, involving at least seven cars. The accidents temporarily blocked two of the four westbound lanes of Interstate 20 at Panola Road. This came at the height of the morning commute.
A Dekalb Police spokesperson gave a statement reporting that there were three hit-and-run accidents where a stolen vehicle pursued by Rockdale sheriff units struck other vehicles and continued. As a result of the accidents, one person received minor injuries and was taken to a hospital for treatment.
The occupants of the vehicle behind the chase stole the vehicle from Corey James at a local Shell Station. James had gone inside the gas station to purchase a soda. When he came out, the suspects were fleeing in his vehicle.
James told the 911 dispatcher that he saw the vehicle get on I-20. The Rockdale sheriff’s deputies began the pursuit shortly after.
A car approaching the ramp at Panola Road was rear-ended by the stolen truck when the pursuing authorities attempted a PIT maneuver.
At the end of the chase, three suspects were arrested. In addition, two guns were recovered.
