Most accidents involve automobiles and other types of accidents that can occur on job sites and other places of business. However, few of these kinds of accidents make the news. When a plane crashes, you can almost always count on it being a headline.
At the Southwest Georgia Regional Airport, three people are confirmed to have lost their lives after a plane crash.
A local described the scene that she was able to witness. Ruth Crawford, an Albany, Georgia resident stated that she heard a “boom” twice and afterwards, witnessed dark smoke emerging from the crash site.
The plane took off from the Southwest Georgia Regional Airport at 2:45 pm on Saturday, January 30th, 2016. The plane crashed one minute later. All three abord the plane were killed.
Albany fire, police, and emergency medical officials all responded to the incident. They responded to a call that a small aircraft had crashed into a ditch and subsequently caught fire. The airport remained closed for a time following the accident.
Officials have not yet released any additional details as to the cause of the crash. The Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board have taken over the investigation.
Authorities have notified the families of those involved in the crash. They asked for the press at the time to be considerate of the families and their grief.
