Most accidents involve automobiles or other equipment or structural failures. While these accidents are the most common, there are other vehicles that can sometimes become involved in accidents. When that vehicle is an airplane, there can be a lot of damage and injuries.
In Barrow County, Georgia, a small plane crashed on Sunday afternoon. The pilot of the plane died in the crash.
A Barrow County Sheriff Department spokesperson stated that the crash occurred at about 2:30 pm on a golf course. The golf course is part of The Georgia Club, a golfing community and country club. It is located on Highway 316 near Statham, Georgia.
The crash happened on the third hole, where the plane continued over the fairway before coming to a stop in the woodline.
There were golfers enjoying their games on the course, but none were at the sight of the crash. There were no other injuries reported.
The pilot was the only person inside the plane, which the Federal Aviation Administration identified as a Beechcraft BE24. Both the FAA and the National Transportation Safety Board will be investigating the cause of the crash.
Though there is an airport about 2 miles from the country club, it is unclear why the plane was in the area.
