Pedestrians are sometimes the victims of traffic accidents. This can happen especially in downtown areas, where increased traffic and pedestrians can readily mix it up.
Last Friday, a woman was struck by a MARTA bus. Initial reports indicated that it had been a man that was struck.
The accident happened at the corner of Forsyth and Alabama streets in the downtown area. This is near the Five Points MARTA station.
MARTA spokesperson Lyle Harris gave some details about the accident. The bus was making a left turn at the intersection when it struck the woman at about 7 am. The woman was using a crosswalk at the time.
In the wake of the accident, Atlanta police charged the driver with failure to yield to a pedestrian. As per company policy, the driver was sent for mandatory drug and alcohol testing.
Kim Jones, an Atlanta Police Officer on the scene said the woman who was struck suffered a shoulder injury. In addition, a passenger on the bus complained of a non-life threatening injury. Both were transported to Grady Memorial Hospital.
