11 Alive reported on a deadly accident on Interstate 75 in which a person trying to cross the busy interstate on foot was struck and killed late Friday evening.
A spokesperson for the Atlanta Police Department stated that officers were called to the interchange of Interstate 75 and Northside Drive, just north of the downtown connector, late on Friday night. Upon arriving, they found a male victim, described as “not alert, conscious, or breathing,” and he was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident following the arrival of Grady paramedics and crews from the Atlanta Fire Department.
The driver that struck the victim with his vehicle stated that the victim walked out onto the road in front of him. The Atlanta Police investigation into the incident caused severe congestion on Interstate 75 as multiple lanes of the highway were shut down for investigators to do their work.
The investigation is ongoing, and investigators are still working to determine what made the victim walk out into the busy freeway.
