11 Alive reported on a tragic accident along Interstate 75 in Marietta in which a 61-year-old Marietta man was struck and killed by a vehicle while trying to cross the highway on foot.
A spokesperson for the Atlanta Police Department stated the incident happened around 9:30 p.m. Friday evening near the busy Delk Road interchange (Exit 261). For unknown reasons still under investigation, the victim attempted to cross the busy interstate, 12 lanes wide at that point, when he was struck and killed by a Chevrolet Trax driven by a 26-year-old Austell woman. The man was declared dead at the scene of the accident.
The accident is being investigated by the Marietta Police Department’s Selective Traffic Enforcement Program (S.T.E.P.) Unit and the investigation is in progress. Any eyewitnesses or those with relevant information are asked to call the S.T.E.P. Unit at 770-794-5357.
This is the second such incident on I-75 last few days, after another pedestrian was struck trying to cross the interstate about ten miles south, near the Northside Drive exit.
