13 WMAZ ABC News reported on the second major accident in two days in the same midtown Atlanta parking garage this weekend, leading to another serious injury for a worker.
The city of Atlanta has completely shut down the construction site of a parking garage in midtown, on a lot surrounded by W. Peachtree Street, Linden Avenue, and Spring Street, following the second major incident in two days, which has resulted in indefinite road closures for the surrounding streets. A worker suffered from significant injuries after an I-beam he was atop fell through ten stories of the structure’s interior.
A spokesperson for Atlanta Fire Department confirmed that workers had been shoring up the partially collapsed structure and that the worker on the toppling I-beam suffered serious injuries in his lower extremities and had been taken to Grady Memorial Hospital for treatment.
OSHA records indicate that Barton-Cook Construction, the contractor on-site, has been fined twice for violations in recent years, including one that led to the death of a worker at Northside Hospital.
