41NBC.com has reported a major traffic artery is now reopened after a dump truck accident in Macon, GA, on Tuesday that shut several lanes down for part of the afternoon.
Bibb County deputies are investigating the accident, which occurred on Hawkinsville Road, just south of Pio Nono Avenue. The dump truck was traveling north when the brakes reportedly failed as the driver approached a line of stopped vehicles. To avoid hitting other cars, the driver quickly swerved to the right, hitting a guardrail before crashing into an overhead sign. The impact caused the truck to roll onto its side before sliding to a stop.
The driver was transported to a local hospital and is reportedly in stable condition. His quick thinking in avoiding stopped traffic meant that no one else was injured in the accident.
Part of the roadway was shut down while nearby construction workers assisted in removing the sign’s wreckage from the truck so the truck could be removed. All lanes were reopened once the wreckage had been cleared.
